Spider Vein Treatment & Varicose Vein Treatment Options

Duplex ultrasound

Non-invasive and painless, ultrasound allows Dr. Fox to visualize your veins and the blood flow within them. Doing this, he can determine the extent of any disease and prescribe an appropriate vein treatment option.

Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy

Deeper veins below the skin surface (and not visible) can be addressed using duplex ultrasound during sclerotherapy to visualize placement of the needle and entry into the vein. This technique is commonly used along with ‘Foam’ sclerotherapy agents, where air is mixed in with the chemical to increase its effectiveness and visibility.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

When Varicose Veins are particularly large and or /close to the surface on the skin, ambulatory phlebectomy is typically recommended. This procedure involves making small (2-5mm) incisions in the skin along the vein through which it can then be removed.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the gold standard for treatment of spider veins. It involves injection of a chemical solution directly into the vein to shut it down permanently. The closed vein is eventually absorbed by the body. Multiple sclerotherapy treatments are commonly required to achieve adequate clearance of unwanted veins.

Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT®)

EVLT can get rid of varicose veins that previously could only be treated with vein surgery. It is a minimally-invasive procedure using a laser fiber inserted directly into the vein. EVLT is performed in the office under local anesthesia, and usually in less than 45 minutes. It involves little to no pain, and most patients are back to normal activities the next day.
